Which Piano Is Right for You?

Which Piano Is Right for You?

Choosing your first — or next — piano is an exciting step. With so many options available it can feel overwhelming. This guide is designed to make that decision simple and enjoyable.

Start with Your Goals

Beginner or student: An upright piano is typically the best value. Models like the Yamaha U1 or Kawai K-300 are excellent starting points.

Intermediate or passionate player: A mid-range grand or a premium upright. The Yamaha G-series or U series, Kawai GL series or K series, both offer exceptional performance.

Advanced or professional: A concert grand from Yamaha, Kawai, or any number of Prewoned professional grands in stock

Grand vs. Upright

Grand pianos have a horizontal action — the hammers fall back by gravity — giving a more responsive touch and richer tone. They require more floor space (5'0" and up).

Upright pianos are vertical and far more space-efficient. Modern uprights from Yamaha and Kawai rival the tone of entry-level grands.

New vs. Pre-Owned

New pianos come with manufacturer warranties and the peace of mind of factory-fresh condition. Pre-owned instruments can offer tremendous value — especially certified pre-owned pianos that have been inspected and serviced by our technicians.

Try Before You Decide

The most important step is to play the piano in person. Visit our showroom — no appointment needed — and our team will help you explore instruments across every price range.
